The Drum Beat as a Heart Beat

“When I was a fetus in my mother’s womb, she would drum on her tummy, because she wanted a son who was a drummer. My father would even place headphones over her pregnant belly and play Piano Concerto No. 2 by Johannes Brahms. I’m pretty sure that’s how my love affair with music, and specifically classical music, began. Since the moment I was able to grasp drumsticks, at around two years old, I have never put them down. I was born to a musical home- my father a pianist and my mother knowing more songs than Spotify. I began playing at age two, and it could be said that my fate was sealed as a musician. I didn’t know then which instrument I would go on to play because I was still little, but it wasn’t long before I found my destiny in the drums. I have always said and continue to say that I succeed in expressing myself with drums better than with spoken or written words. The fact that this book has even been published is a huge accomplishment for me.”

Eden explains: “Every time I close my eyes, I return to the event arena and cannot stop thinking that I could easily have been the one under the columns, covered in my blood instead of her. The fact that the Angel of Death passed over me at that event doesn’t mean he will do so again. I understand that I will never be the same person I was and that from that very moment, my life completely changed; the Eden of before and the Eden of after are two different people.”

Eden Bahar is a man who dreamed, worked, and achieved, in response to an unfortunate event. He has been a drummer since the age of three years, befitting the son of a musician who serves as inspiration, creative partner, and who also answers to the nickname “Dad.” Over the last eight years, Eden has played with over 100 bands and traveled to 30 different countries. ‘For as long as I can remember myself, I have always been of few words and many drum beats. I have now decided to add words to this rhythm in which I have been living for years.’

Eden Bahar is a young musician with lots of talent and endless love for music. In his book, he describes for us his development as a person and an artist, sharing with us the continuous struggle between an artistic career

which demands total devotion and life itself, a love life, the strong connection to his family and current affairs, on which he is unwilling to compromise. A recommended read! – Rafi Kadishzon, musician
